Songza Secures $3.8M in Funding from Investors Including Amazon

Songza, a free streaming music service that offers expert-made playlists and is available on the web as well as various touch screen platforms, has announced that it has raised $3.8 million in funding.

According to an SEC filing, Songza’s recent funding round brings its total funding to date to over $7 million. While Amazon has been listed as a potential investor on AngelList, it appears that the company has invested through its earlier Aime St vehicle, which was acquired by Songza.

A Strong Round of Financing

In late 2011, Songza closed a seven-figure round of financing led by investors including Deep Fork Capital. Additionally, an undisclosed strategic investor participated in the funding round. Geoff Judge, co-founder of 24/7 Real Media, also joined the investment round.

Songza’s recent fundraising efforts have been well-received, with many praising the service for its innovative approach to music streaming. Unlike services like Spotify and Pandora, Songza allows users to create playlists based on specific times of day (e.g., workdays vs. weekends) and moods (e.g., party).

A Team with a Strong Track Record

The team behind Songza has a strong track record in the music industry. The company was founded by the same team that started AmieStreet.com, a crowd-priced MP3 download store that launched in 2006 while the founders were still in university.

Headquartered in Long Island City, NY

Songza is headquartered in Long Island City, New York. With its innovative approach to music streaming and a strong team behind it, Songza is poised for continued growth and success in the competitive music streaming market.
